$40,000PilotSanctuary AI Phoenix Gen 8 (Dec 2024): wheeled base, 170 cm / 70 kg, 25 kg payload, 21-DoF hydraulic hands with 5 mN tactile sensing — the most-dexterous commercial humanoid hands. Magna automotive pilot.
Phoenix is Sanctuary AI's flagship general-purpose humanoid. The eighth generation, released December 2024, is the production reference design (sanctuary.ai).
The robot stands 170 cm tall and weighs 70 kg with a 25 kg payload. Each hand has 21 DoF, hydraulic actuation and tactile sensors sensitive down to 5 millinewtons (vs human fingertip ≈3 mN), enabling blind picking, slippage detection and in-hand reorientation. Sanctuary deliberately switched to a wheeled base after customer feedback that bipedal legs aren't rigid enough for the torso loads the hands demand. The Carbon software stack ingests spoken instructions, plans tasks and executes autonomously or under teleop. Sanctuary's primary commercial partner is Magna International for automotive pilots; pricing starts ~$65K.
