$150,000PrototypeToyota CUE7 (April 2026): 74 kg basketball-shooting humanoid on inverted two-wheel base. Hybrid RL + MPC control, vision + LiDAR distance estimation. Guinness record-holder for longest humanoid basketball shot.
CUE7 is the latest in Toyota Motor Corporation's basketball-shooting robot line, unveiled 12 April 2026. The platform dropped weight dramatically from CUE6 (120 kg → 74 kg) and adopted an inverted two-wheel base (interestingengineering.com).
Control runs a hybrid system: reinforcement learning refines shooting through trial-and-error while model-predictive control plans precise trajectories. Body-mounted LiDAR + vision sensors locate the hoop and refine shot angle in real time. Lineage: CUE6 set a Guinness record for the longest humanoid basketball shot (24.55 m) in December 2024; the program started as a Toyota employee side project and graduated into a robotics-capability showcase.
