CommercialKokoro Actroid DER (2005→): Japanese stationary android — silicone skin, 47 moving points, Air Servo actuators. Lifelike facial expressions, blinking, breathing. Rented for exhibitions + events.
Actroid is the long-running Japanese android line developed by Osaka University and manufactured by Kokoro Company Ltd. (Sanrio's animatronics division). Unveiled at the 2003 International Robot Exhibition; the Actroid DER ("Dramatic Entertainment Robot") shipped in June 2005, followed by Actroid DER2 in October 2006 with the floor platform removed and additional realism in hands / feet (wikipedia.org).
The robot is powered by an air-cylinder system called Air Servo — compressed-air-driven servo motors with most of the AI hardware external to the unit. Silicone skin reproduces blinking, speaking, breathing and various facial expressions. Actroid DER2 has 47 moving points. No locomotion — the lineage is fundamentally a stationary entertainment / exhibition android.
