World's tallest autonomous robot works in a warehouse

Dexterity CEO Andrei Danescu discusses autonomous warehouse scanning and visibility with host John Koetsier on NEXT’s Tech First.

In this talk

  1. 0:43

    Closing warehouse visibility gaps

Danescu says everyday pressures and mistakes make inventory records unreliable. Dexterity’s platform tracks pallet movements, stock locations, and conditions such as temperature, humidity, and time in storage across multiple warehouses.

  2. 2:16

A tall robot built to scan racks

Dexterity’s autonomous robots stand 12 meters tall and scan warehouse racks to build a digital representation of locations and inventory. They use in-house 3D SLAM, six LiDARs, cameras, and other sensors; scanning can exceed 10,000 pallets an hour. The robot fits narrow aisles, works alongside staff, and returns to its dock to recharge when needed.

  3. 12:34

    From scans to warehouse improvements

Customers use the software platform to review warehouse data and spot trends over time. Danescu says some sites improved from below 90% efficiency to above 99.56% within one to two months, though the measures vary by warehouse and can include inventory accuracy, location accuracy, environmental conditions, and space utilization.

  4. 18:06

    Recognizing inventory and sharing data

The system combines barcode and QR scanning, character recognition, machine vision, and 3D data to identify and measure stored goods. Dexterity’s DeVu platform can exchange data with warehouse management systems through APIs, bringing information from multiple systems into a shared view.

  5. 21:29

Subscription model and faster supply chains

Dexterity charges a subscription whose price depends on the warehouse, features, and customizations, and it maintains the robot hardware. Koetsier connects accurate inventory data to faster-moving supply chains and autonomous delivery; Danescu highlights connectivity as an important part of that future.
