Physical AI on AWS | Sujeong Cha (AWS)
Sujeong Cha, an AWS employee, presents AWS’s Physical AI stack and customer projects at the Humanoids Summit.
Alfie, host at The AI Nexus, discusses WIRobotics’ ALLEX humanoid robot and its dexterous hands, potential uses, and deployment challenges.
Alfie says each ALLEX hand has 15 degrees of freedom and fingertip and joint sensors that detect pressure. He describes the combination as a way to adjust grip for delicate objects while retaining the ability to apply greater force.
The proposed applications range from handling small electronics and lab tools to assisting with tasks in hospitals, homes, and service settings. Alfie imagines ALLEX passing instruments under human supervision, assembling tiny components, and helping older people with daily activities.
Alfie identifies manufacturing cost, reliable scaling, and safe control of the robot’s grip as key challenges. He also says ALLEX will face competition from humanoid projects including Tesla Optimus, Figure AI’s Figure 2, Unitree H1, and Agility Robotics’ Digit.
Alfie frames manipulation as a major remaining challenge for humanoid robots and says ALLEX’s hand design could be a meaningful advance. He argues that practical trials outside controlled demonstrations will show whether the robot can perform consistently in workplaces and homes.
