Designed for fast, precise travel
SymBots travel at more than 20 mph and make rapid turns to store and retrieve products. The newest generation combines updated technology and design, with automotive-inspired features intended to help it handle varied floor conditions, including water and coffee grounds.

Improving traction and wheel life
Wishbone suspension and powered front casters distribute torque across all four wheels, keeping wheel slip below one degree while driving. The changes enable turns 10% faster than the prior generation. Along with a lower-friction floor, they can extend wheel life by up to four times and lengthen maintenance intervals.

Reducing energy use
Faster turning, acceleration, and stopping cut the robot’s energy consumption by 20%. That efficiency also allowed Symbotic to reduce the robot’s weight and capacitor size.

Speeding up case handling
The robot can now raise or lower its lifting mechanism while moving, cutting average pick-and-place time by 50%. Added actuators pull products toward the center of the payload bay, helping the system handle a wider range of products. Across a system processing hundreds of thousands of cases weekly, faster work per robot can increase overall throughput.

Building a collaborative robot fleet
A team member with more than a decade of AI experience describes Symbotic’s fleet as highly sophisticated. The robots use onboard vision, sensing, and computing to coordinate their work.
