Automation built over time
Eurosubstrat Calac produces 12,000 tonnes of incubated substrate for exotic mushrooms each year. The company began using KUKA robots in the 2000s and now operates a mix of older, retrofitted, and new-generation machines. The representative says KUKA offers options that fit an SME’s resources and budget.

A cell tailored to the site
KUKA connected Eurosubstrat with Hubert Process, which developed a solution around the company’s products. Installation and commissioning took two weeks. The palletising cell was fitted into the existing premises while preserving pallet input and output flows, avoiding extra construction work.

Flexibility and support
The teams worked to keep package dimensions consistent and make the palletiser adaptable to different products. Eurosubstrat reports few breakdowns and says Hubert Process responded quickly online and on-site when issues arose. The representative also describes KUKA’s programming tool as useful for adjusting the system to site conditions and client requirements.

Higher throughput and calmer work
Since the robot was installed, the team has experienced less noise and stress. The representative describes the new KUKA robot as reliable and robust, with a contingency plan in place and simpler, more intuitive operation. Output rose from four to five pallets per hour to 12, meeting the company’s target.

Room to grow into the investment
Eurosubstrat plans to win more business so it can make fuller use of the cell’s productivity. The representative says the system should continue to handle increased volume.
