PAL Robotics | INNO4COV-19 Project Mr. Clean

A PAL Robotics representative presents the INNO4COV-19 Mr. Clean project and its TIAGo Disinfection robot for autonomous UVC cleaning of indoor spaces.

In this talk

    Why automate UVC disinfection

Mr. Clean is developing an autonomous system to disinfect different kinds of indoor spaces. UVC lamps operated by people can leave untreated areas behind because objects cast shadows. The robot aims to cover those areas more completely and reduce manual repositioning.

  2. 0:39

    TIAGo Disinfection system

The mobile robot combines short-wavelength ultraviolet lamps with cameras, safety sensors, and task-management software. The system is intended to let people without robotics expertise schedule and manage disinfection.

  3. 1:05

    Room-by-room task workflow

The software queues jobs for rooms in a facility. For each job, TIAGo travels to a designated point, signals that people should leave, and then switches on the lamps. It repeats the process to address shadowed areas.

  4. 1:41

    Safety and access

Sensors help the robot approach surfaces that can be difficult to disinfect by other means. Its camera detects people, and the lamps shut off if someone is present.

  5. 1:59

    Potential workplace impact

The system is presented as a way to improve hygiene in public and healthcare settings. By taking on disinfection tasks, it could leave staff more time for other work.
