LeRobot Worldwide Hackathon Kickoff

Hugging Face’s LeRobot team introduces the first LeRobot Worldwide Hackathon, outlining its open robotics project, five participation tracks, event rules, and prizes for builders worldwide.

In this talk

  1. 0:01

LeRobot’s community and open robotics toolkit

The opening describes LeRobot’s growth since its 2024 launch, citing more than 100 GitHub contributors, over 8,000 Discord members, and thousands of shared datasets. The project combines affordable robot designs with software for collecting data, training models, and running them on robots. The presenters describe a workflow from assembling and teleoperating robot arms to recording demonstrations and training policies on a laptop or GPU computer.

  2. 6:27

Hackathon tracks for different skills and setups

The team presents five tracks: imitation learning, reinforcement learning, adding robot support, improving robot hardware, and better dataset tools. Participants can train policies from demonstrations, explore online learning with real or simulated robots, or contribute hardware and software improvements. Some tracks need a robot or GPU, while hardware and dataset work can be done without a GPU, and dataset tooling can be explored without a robot.

  3. 15:37

    Project expectations, judging, and support

Teams are asked to enjoy the event, help each other, and submit a demo video under one minute by 6 p.m. local time on June 15, with datasets where relevant. Hugging Face and Seeed Studio offer hardware prizes to 30 teams; judges will consider originality, engineering challenge, usefulness, and potential real-world value. The team recommends using GitHub and Discord, searching for existing answers, and sharing specific questions.

    Global participation and closing remarks

Short greetings from organizers and participants span cities and countries including Toronto, Seattle, Perth, Seoul, Denver, and Mexico. Hugging Face co-founder and CEO Clément Delangue says he will attend the Miami event and encourages participants to share their projects. The closing frames the event as a collaborative effort across local meetups and online participation.
