Why IONO is building for European industry
The company began taking formal steps last April after more than two years of development. Its founder sees demand for robots in industrial jobs that are repetitive, hazardous, or difficult to staff, and aims to offer a European solution. The presentation highlights harsh factory conditions, worker safety, perception, and control of operational data as core challenges.

A robot and its managed ecosystem
IONO’s offer combines the Workmate robot with IonoSphere, a closed environment spanning robot, server, and software tools. The platform is intended to coordinate groups of robots, assign work, and keep task data and developed intelligence within the system. The Workmate stands 1.75 meters tall, has a mass of about 75 kilograms, can handle loads up to 30 kilograms, and is specified for as much as eight hours per charge.

Protective suit, sensing, and mobility
IonoSkin is designed to shield the hardware from dust, water, and heat while adding sensors that can detect conditions such as leaks or condensation. Active cooling directs treated air toward joints or computing hardware, and lights help people see the robot’s limbs and actions. IonoHead uses independently movable rings for panoramic viewing; the cameras can turn away and stop capturing when a worker prefers not to be recorded. A Roboard platform gives the system a choice between walking and wheeled movement on flat factory floors.

Demonstrations and production plans
A drone stored in the head can scout for parts or tools while the robot remains at a workstation. A pilot application under development loads parts into a machine and returns processed items to a box, a task currently performed by a person during an eight-hour shift. IONO says it is running pilots with companies in Austria, Germany, and Italy, expects to add robots in pre-series projects next year, and plans series production in 2028.

Building an industry network
IONO’s Humanoid Hub is an online gathering place for interested parties, and the company plans to open a physical Autonomous Center in the summer. The center is intended to bring industry, research groups, and universities together in Austria.
