Agility Foundations: Data Security

Pras Velagapudi, CTO of Agility Robotics, explains how the company approaches data security across its robots, cloud services, and customer deployments.

In this talk

  1. 0:21

    Security in real-world robotics

Velagapudi says security can be overlooked amid attention to impressive robot demonstrations. In customer facilities, visual data may reveal faces, shipping labels, or proprietary information about the objects robots handle.

  2. 1:06

    Secure the full platform

Agility’s platform includes robots and cloud services for software updates, AI training, and workflow commands. Velagapudi says security controls must cover these connected parts to reduce risks to customers.

  3. 1:30

    Keep robot safety onboard

Network security and hardware safety are separate layers. Each robot carries its safety limits locally, so connectivity problems, remote commands, or external access cannot override them.

  4. 2:02

Give every robot a distinct identity

Agility equips each robot with a unique cryptographic identity, encrypted storage, and controlled device access. Robot-to-cloud communications are authenticated at both ends and encrypted, which Velagapudi says helps contain a problem to one unit.

  5. 2:45

    Protect data beyond the robot

Cloud systems must protect sensitive data from unauthorized access and sharing. Velagapudi cites industry incidents involving hidden access paths that enabled commands or exposed data across robots, and says preventing these risks requires careful system design.
