A social and conversational humanoid robot platform with a back-projected face, multimodal interaction, and modular software tools. It uses an LLM-driven conversation designer, and its NLU engine and gesture control can be linked to Large Language Models.
Furhat Robotics AB developed the Furhat Robot as a social robotics platform centered on face-to-face conversation. The robot’s defining feature is a back-projected facial interface mounted on a humanoid torso, designed to support speech, gaze, and expressive interaction in public-facing and research settings.
The company emerged from work at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, and Furhat has been developed as a modular system for speech-based interaction, dialogue design, and social robotics research. Over time, the platform has been updated to support broader software tooling and integration with modern language and interaction systems, while remaining focused on conversational use cases rather than physical manipulation.
The conversation design workflow is extended to work with LLM-based systems and updated interaction control.
The platform adds more modular tooling for conversation design, speech interaction, and application development.
The company begins offering Furhat as a social robot platform for research, development, and demonstrations.
Furhat Robotics AB is established to develop and commercialize the platform.
The Furhat concept starts as a research project at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
